On Labor Day we stayed home and enjoyed the great weather that we were hoping for all summer. Daddy got out the sprinkler and the girls loved getting wet. Clara was timid at first and we had to give her little missions, like touching the sprinkler guy's head to get her to really get wet. Janie had fun throwing the ball toward the water and watching it move around when it was hit by the stream of water. It didn't take too long of playing this game until she was wet.
It is neat to see the girls play together and the older Janie gets, the more it happens. They thought it was pretty funny to sit in this fort together and peek out at us.
Then Janie, who is fearless in a way we never experienced with Clara at this age, kept trying to climb up the slide. She didn't quite make it up, but came closer than we thought she could. Clara sat at the top egging her on and howling each time she would slip.
The parallel play continued at the sand table. At the beginning of the summer Janie was too little to join in the messy fun. What a difference a season can make at this age because on this occasion she got right in.
The afternoon was made complete with a yummy ice cream sandwich! While we didn't get many days of great sunshine like this over the summer, we were thankful for the fun day together in our own little back yard. Next year, these gals are going to continue to have so much back yard fun together!
